HYPONIC (Hong Kong)
Black Sun
Self Released, 2001

The first metal band I discovered from Hong Kong and they are damn great! 6 tracks, more than 30 minutes of heavy and brutal sounding death metal. Actually they are not fast all the time but I don’t agree when they describe their music as doom/death. There are some slow, heavy and depressive moments but there are also fast and mid-pace parts. Except for “Third” and “Black Sun” which are mostly mid-pace and the slow part are really doomy and depressive. Oh well, why should we argue about labeling their music? The Mexican SARGATANAS come into my mind when listening to this CD. This professional self-released CD comes with complete booklet, great sound, well-played songs and great death growling vocals. What else do you want?

HYPONIC (Hong Kong)
Black Sun
Self-Released, 2001
This is a Death/Doom Metal band from Hong Kong and I got this demo from a friend of mine who was lucky enough to get hold of this masterpiece. 6 devastating tracks of pure doom/death metal coming straight from a band that I guess has been around for a while. The Chinese side of the globe is much into Black Metal than Death metal and after listening to these guys (Hyponic) its good that people leave death metal alone cause I think it would be difficult for anyone to play like Hyponic. The song structure, speed, vocals and the music itself reminds me of typical mid 90's death metal with nice slow parts and deep deep vocals. The recording too is good for a demo CD, clocking just over 30 mins these guys are worth your CD player and I must say that they definetly will/should go a long way.

Metamorphosis
2002
I got this CD just about 2 weeks back and was expecting some real good Death/Doom Metal, to my surprise I found that it contained just one track! Maybe this is a one track demo or maybe it's a CD made specially to be sent to me, I don't really know. This track "Metamorphosis" didn't really do much for me. Slow and sludgy it really isn't the same as their earlier demo. Maybe Hyponic are now planning to go slower and doomier but I guess they really should stick to their old style, thumbs up to the recording.
